My name is George McDonnell. I've served 22 years in the US Navy between 1980 and 2014, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. I was on Active Duty for 5-1/2 years, then reaffiliated with the Navy Reserve in 1998. On Active Duty I was trained as an Electrician and served aboard the USS MARS (AFS-1). As a Reservist I served with the Office of Naval Intelligence and the US European Command. I was deployed to Washington, DC in the wake of the 9/11 attacks and some years later I was deployed again, spending most of 2010 in Paktika Province, Afghanistan.
I have experience in the IT industry and for the past 10 years have been running a local IT service business. I wasn't looking for something new but US Military Maintenance came to me. I read an article about the cause on LinkedIn, and contacted Mark Baird to learn more about the concept. I have spent a big chunk of my life around servicemembers and I have a passion for helping and working with Veterans. As a Navy Chief, the concept of taking care of our Sailors is paramount to me. Now that I no longer have Sailors reporting to me I am turning my attention to taking care of our Veterans.
